AFRICA DAY: ENVIRONMENT SOCIETY and SPACE

THURSDAY 24 MAY, 2012

ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY

Africa Day is the international commemoration of the founding of the African Union. The African Union, comprised of 53 member states, addresses the challenges the continent has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.

In collaboration with the Africa Day celebrations by Irish Aid, this conference brings Geographers working on African issues to speak at the RIA on their contribution to understanding current events in Africa and the relationships between Africa and Ireland. Focus is placed on the work around environment, space and society. The conference provides a new platform for collaboration in this growing area of the Geographical Sciences.
